ArtEase Museum

An Audio Tour App with Closed Caption and Real-Time Map for Museum Lovers

ArtEase Museum mobile app, which is an audio-tour app for the museum, will let users get information about art pieces with audio which will affect people who want to explore the gallery efficiently and even people who have disability of hearing by providing real time location of the map and audio tour function and assistive listening functions such as closed captions. We will measure effectiveness by tracking how many times those functions were used on the app.

My Role

This is a personal project I worked on as a part of the Google UX Design Professional Certificate.

Work Scope

User Research, UX Design, Wireframing, Prototyping, Visual Design

The Problem

When we visit museums or galleries, we don't have enough time to look around all the art pieces and it's hard to figure out where to start and where to go. Even though many of them provide audio-tour mobile apps to visitors, those apps are not always friendly to people with disabilities.

Challenges

  • How can we help visitors who don't have enough time to explore all the exhibitions and less information about them?

  • How can we improve experiences of people with disabilities when they use audio tour apps?'

  • How can visitors find information and location of exhibitions and art pieces in faster and easier way?

Solutions

  • Provide information about each exhibition to help visitors decide where to go quickly and save time.

  • Provide real time maps to make visitors' journey easier, showing visitors' current location and where exhibitions and art pieces are.

  • Provide audio tours with closed captions, so people with disabilities can also fully enjoy exhibitions.

User Journey Map

"I want to have quality time and experience art pieces better when I visit an art gallery with my partner,"

"My daughter has a disability of hearing and wishes she could get the knowledge that an audio tour delivers while exploring an art gallery."

UI Style Guide

Things I learned

User-Centric Approach:

  • I learned understanding the needs, preferences, and behaviors of users is fundamental. We need to prioritize user satisfaction and ease of use.

  • Conducting user research, surveys, and usability testing is important to gather insights and validate design decisions.

User Journey Mapping:

  • We map out the user journey to understand the entire experience from the user's perspective. Identifying pain points and opportunities for improvement is the final goal.

Prototyping and Testing:

  • I learned prototyping tools to visualize and test different design solutions before implementation.

  • We conduct usability testing to gather user feedback on prototypes, ensuring that the final design meets user expectations.
